Start to Finish: The Silver Hair Trend

Wanting to hide your grey hairs has become a thing of the past these days, with metallic hues being the hair trend of the moment – celebrities and superstar bloggers alike opting for the silver fox look rather than ‘blonde bombshell’. Not convinced? Just check out some of the ladies below for inspiration.

We’re loving the trend here at Luxe, and think ‘granny hair’ is here to stay. So how do you achieve and maintain the look we hear you ask? Well, you’re about to find out.

If you are already one of people that joined the platinum club when being the blondest of blondes was the way to go, then going silver for you shouldn’t mean too much of a hair journey. If you’re a dark-haired guy/gal though, things are going to be a little trickier. Your hair will need pre-lightening beforehand to the whitest blonde possible, after which your stylist will need to mix a grey tone created especially for you – taking into account everything from skin tone to eye colour in making sure the silver shade you’re getting isn’t just standard, it’s personalised.

Of course, whether you were blonde or brunette to start out, with so much lightening and colouring, there is a distinct possibility that your hair will weaken as a result of the process, and so not only is maintaining your haircare routine important for ensuring the colour doesn’t fade, but also for making sure your hair stays in good condition post colour change. Some of the best products to use when it comes to keeping silver/grey hair in tip top condition are shampoos and conditioners especially formulated to keep silver hair in great condition – strengthening through the use of amino acids, and keeping the colour looking crisp through anti-yellow technology the same as that used in the purple shampoos formulated especially for blonde hair. L’Oreal do some great products when it comes to catering for silver hair including their Professionnel Homme Grey Shampoo and cult favourite Professionnel Serie Expert Silver and so if it’s silver hair staples that you’re after then they are a great brand to start with.

If you use one of their shampoos along with an intensive conditioning mask once or twice a week to help nourish and hydrate your coloured hair, then you will be well on your way to ‘on fleek’ platinum silver tresses that really stand out from the crowd. Thinking you might want to join the silver hair club? Just give us a call or pop into the salon for a consultation today. X
